Computers 4 Kids

Computers for Kids

Computers 4 Kids (C4K) is an innovative initiative designed to positively impact the future of children in need in Tennessee by awarding computers to kids and families facing economic challenges, in the foster care system or struggling with behavioral disorders and other issues. Connected Tennessee is coordinating the Computers 4 Kids project with the State of Tennessee, the Department of Children’s Services and the Department of Human Services.

Almost half of the low-income families in Tennessee cite a lack of a computer at home as the reason they are not accessing the Internet. Computers 4 Kids is intended to help bridge the gap between those who can afford computers and those who cannot, while allowing thousands of disadvantaged Tennessee children and families the opportunity to participate in the educational, economic and civic opportunities made available by having a computer in the home.

In addition, C4K will also be enriching the educational landscape of Tennessee’s communities by placing computer labs in non-profit organizations that work to enhance the lives of students and families in their area. With the computer labs, these non-profit groups will be able to offer programs that teach, serve and impact youth in Tennessee.

Already over 1,000 children and families across Tennessee have benefitted from the Computers 4 Kids program. C4K will ultimately award at least 3,000 computers over a three year period to children and families in need.
